Entre deux mers

Appellation Entre deux Mers is reserved for dry white still wines located south east ( Green ) within the Bordeaux wine region as seen in our Bordeaux wine glass.

The geographical area of the controlled appellation Entre deux mers is a vast plate as it is bounded by the left bank of the Dordogne to the north and the right bank of the Garonne to the south.

The appellation concerned covers 133 municipalities in Gironde.

To comply with regulations, the vines have a minimum planting density of 4,500 vines per hectare.

Wines are made from the following grape varieties: Muscadelle , semillon, sauvignon , sauvignon gris, colombard, mauzac blanc, merlot and Ugni Blanc.

In 1850 the vineyards covered 42,000 hectares, which is about the same area as it is now  producing an average of 90,000 hectolitres.

The still wines generally have a yellow straw colour and  a sharp taste to the mouth, characterised by notes of aromatic white flowers and fresh fruity notes of citrus.  These wines are to be consumed young.

During the period of judicial recognition of designations of origin, a judgment of the Civil Court.  Located in Libourne and dated  28th October  1924  reserved the name  Entre deux Mers  wines.
This stated red and white wines in the Gironde between the left bank of the Dordogne and the right bank of the Garonne.

Subsequently overturned, the Decree of 31 July 1937 recognizes the appellation of origin controlled Entre deux Mers is for white wine only.
