Graves de Vayres
Graves de Vayres is reserved for red and white still wine located south east ( Green ) within the Bordeaux wine region as seen in our Bordeaux wine glass.
The geographical area of Graves de Vayres is located on the left bank of the Dordogne River, west of Libourne in the Gironde.
In 2010, the vineyards covered 500 hectares producing an average of 25,000 hectoliters of red wines and 8,000 hectoliters of white wines which about two-thirds are dry white wines, all operated by approximately forty producers.
Dry white wines are characterized by certain liveliness brought by the sauvignon grape.
Sweet wines from the appellation are soft and flexible.
Red wines are dominated by the Merlot grape that providing wines that are round, velvety, aromatic and fruity. The Cabernet Sauvignon grape variety brings a strong tannin structure but never harsh, and Cabernet Franc brings out the finesse.
These red wines are great and can be enjoyed in their youth with their fruity character or may also benefit from ageing, depending on the proportions and blend with the grape Cabernet Sauvignon, they are good to keep for 5-10 years.
To comply with regulations, the minimum vine density of planting 4,500 vines per hectare.
Red wines are aged at least until the 1st May of the year following the year of harvest.
The grape harvest, wine making, and development also ageing of the wines are guaranteed in the territory in the following municipalities in the department of Gironde: Aveyres and Vayres.
